Our Purpose
Why Lifting the Burden Exists
In moments of trauma, grief, illness, or crisis, people need more than treatment; they need tenderness.
At Lifting the Burden, we bridge the gap between clinical care and emotional comfort by offering compassionate, emotionally responsive support to individuals facing life’s hardest moments. While hospitals, shelters, and community programs often deliver essential services, a critical gap remains: the absence of consistent, human-centered emotional care.
Far too often, individuals especially children and underserved adults are stabilized, but not soothed. They are helped, but still feel alone. In that overlooked space, emotional isolation takes root, deepening the impact of trauma and weakening resilience.
That’s where we come in.

Lifting the Burden exists to fill this gap with comfort that is simple, scalable, and deeply human. Our high-quality comfort bears are more than toys; they are tangible expressions of presence, care, and connection. In the hands of someone navigating pain or uncertainty, these bears become anchors of hope and reminders that they are seen, valued, and never alone.
We believe every burden deserves to be met with compassion and no one should carry theirs alone.

1,000 Bears of Hope
A Community Driven Digital Fundraiser for Emotional Healing
Lifting the Burden is launching a scalable digital fundraising campaign, ‘’1,000 Bears of Hope,’’ designed to raise $25,000 to fund the production and distribution of 1,000 comfort bears, which serve as tangible symbols of care, connection, and hope for children and adults experiencing trauma, grief, medical crisis, illness, or hardship in Philadelphia and across the United States.
Each bear valued at $25 will be specific to each burden—mental health, grief, doctor’s visit, cancer, natural disaster, and more.
The campaign will be launched in late summer to early fall 2025 and run for 4-6 weeks, engaging individual donors, community allies, and corporate partners. It will feature impact storytelling, photo testimonials, and live campaign tracking via Lifting the Burden’s online channels.

This small business owner is rethinking how we show up for each other, one plush toy at a time
Inspired by his own struggles, Eric Wyatt founded Burden the Bear to show recipients of its stuffed animals that they’re not alone in grief, illness or isolation.
